Deliverable #1:

Concept Document

Premise

The premise of the final project is an interactive virtual museum of the fine and contemporary art. The user may explore the museum by moving in first person around the galleries of the museum. However, the museum contains a dark secret, which is not obvious to the player and could be left undiscovered. The length of the experience is aimed to be between 15 to 30 min.

Intended medium

The goal is to make it playable in VR on HTC Vive or with traditional keyboard and mouse input on a monitor.

Platform

The project will be developed on Unreal Engine 4 for Windows PCs.

First person exploration/ puzzle game.

Genre
Intended audience
Nature of the interactivity

Intended for adult audiences, who are interested in less action packed interactive experiences. The audience is also limited by the ones who is in possession of a VR setup and/ or a capable PC.

Overview of the characters

The player will be able to move around environment either by teleportation locomotion in VR or by traditional WASD input on the keyboard. Certain items in the environment will be pickable.

No voice acting is intended for the project, unless it is synthesized. The majority of the story will be told through environmental storytelling.

1) Player -protagonist in the experience, there is not actual character behind the avatar for the player to posses. However, there might be some backstory. This will be updated as the project develops.

2) Damsel in Distress - is an imprisoned character in the secret room of the museum. In one of the narrative arcs the player tries to free her from captivity. Brings motivation. SHe is, however, a surprise. It is not revealed until the safe is open what is inside. So she is a motivation only in retrospect, the safe is motivation.

3) Museum Director - an antagonist, who orchestrated the exhibition and imprisoned  Damsel in Distress.

Main features of the story and game:
  • 1:1 scale of paintings and sculptures.

  • Ability to get as close as one wants to the exhibition pieces.

  • At least three endings/ conclusions to the experience.
